Check out this link to a blog well written from a Christian perpective.  Really worth the read!

iPod Touch - faulty in less than one year

On 12 August 2009, we bought a iPod Touch from Eureka, Salmiya - Kuwait.  This was a birthday gift to my son, jointly from his Grandmother (major share) and us, his parents (minor share).

Now my son is not a music lover.  He is a gadget lover.  Since we have wifi at our home, he enjoyed downloading apps, playing games, chatting and emailing.

Unforturnately, 3 weeks back it suddenly would not come on!

But since it is still under warranty I was cool.  So I take it last Tuesday, 8 June 2010, back to Eureka.  The guy at the service counter sees the receipt and tells me, "The warranty is under Super Star Co. and their workshop is in Hawally, Rihab Complex, 1st floor."  [What!!  OK, ok, cool down...there is still a waranty.]  So I decide to go on my off-day i.e. on Saturday, in the morning when the traffic is lighter.

Come Saturday, 12 June 2010, my son and I are at the Rihab complex.  We find a nice shaded parking under a tree in order to keep the car out of the +50 degree celcius sunlight.  We search the full 1st floor, ground floor and basement.  We ask people and no one has heard of it.  To make a +30 mins walk-a-thon story short, one Indian fella guides us to the shop (which we must have crossed 1 or 2 times in our search).

There is this south indian guy (Telegu or Tamil) who's Hindi is more worst than mine. He checks the receipt and says he need the original. Now I'm sweating and tired and I loose my composure.  I blast the guy saying whenever it comes to meeting the warranty there are excuses; this was the receipt given by Eureka; etc etc.  He gets defensive and says he will call the 'Mandoop' (expediter).  I guess he meant 'Mudheer' meaning 'manager'.   He explains the situation to his manager.  Then I speak to his manager who speak English.  So I explain the fault I am facing as well as the issue regarding the receipts.  He accepts my explanation.  He tell me that the battery is not covered in the warranty.  That's convenient.  No one will tell you this when you purchase the product.

Now the staff takes the iPod Touch and the receipt and gives me his receipt.  I ask him 'how many days it would take'.  He says at least 14 days!  What non-sense?? He says it has to be sent to the Dubai technicians.  Does this mean there is no one who can fix it in Kuwait?

You can imagine how frustrated we are.  Now when my son goes to India for vacation, he will not be having it.

So much for the "GREAT" Apple iPod Touch.... JUNK

Lessons learnt:

  1. Ensure that the receipt is clear and printed and stamped.
  2. Get all the details regarding the warranty
  3. If the price is very competitive, then may the warranty is given by some useless 3rd party.#
  4. Apple products hardware is not better than the rest - you only pay more for the name.
